Hind Swaraj (Hindi Edition) and Other New Material on the website

Since the launch of the refurbished site on September 28, 2011, we have added much new material. The most significant additions during this period are:

1. Hind Swaraj (Hindi Edition): We published a Hindi Edition of Hind Swaraj on October 2, 2011. The Edition is based on our reading of the original Gujarati Manuscript of Hind Swaraj and its verabtim translation that we have published earliers. While the earlier editions of Hind Swaraj were meant for the scholars and the deeply interested reader, the new Hindi edition is meant for the lay reader. It offers an authentic, yet easy flowing Hindi translation of this seminal text. It is in fact the only authentic Hindi edition of the text available to the readers. The Navjivan Hindi translation is highly laboured and carries a long introductory essay by the editor, which in fact suggests that the text should not be taken very seriously in the modern times. The Navjivan edition is also poorly printed and presented. The Hindi translation that we offer is elegantly produced in consonance with the significance of the text. We have also priced the edition at a very economic price of Rs.40/- only. We hope that this text should be widely used by Indians who respect the thoughts and memory of the greatest son of India in the modern times.

This edition of Hind Swaraj was released on October 2 at Bhopal by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Sri Shivraj Singh Chauhan. The release function was held following a week of publilc reading of the text. Details of this meeting may be seen here.

We have placed details of this Hindi edition and the preface on the website. We shall soon be putting the complete text of all editions of Hind Swaraj that we have produced during the last year on the website on the publications page.

2. During this period we have also published a booklet on the Scheduled Tribes of India: Religious Demography and Representation both in Hindi and English. The book was released by Sri Karia Munda, Hon. Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, on November 24, 2011. Details of the meeting may be seen here.

We have placed the text of this booklet both in Hindi and English on the publications page. To access the texts please click here.

3. On the publications page, we have also added the text of the "An Illustrated Presentation on the Religious Demography of India 2001 Revision" in English and Hindi. This presentation gives the summary of the situation as revealed in the Census of 2001. To access the presentation please click here.

We shall soon be placing the complete texts and tables of the original edition of Religious Demography of India and Religious Demography of India 2001 Revision.

4. On the publications page, we have also added details of "Resource Atlas of Jhabua: A Celebration of the Land and People of Jhabua". This is our first publication in the Madhya Pradesh Resource Atlas Programme. We have now published "Resource Atlas of Sidhi and Singrauli" also. The details of this text shall be added soon. We shall also soon be placing the two Atlases in pdf format on this website.

We are adding a great deal of basic material on this site continuously. Please visit the site as often as possible. We shall be happy to receive your feedback.
